While visiting Glasgow, be sure to visit the Historic Plaza Theatre located at 115 East Main Street right off the downtown square. The Plaza Theatre, a 1,019-seat proscenium theatre, is a restored and renovated vaudeville and movie house from the 1930s. Currently, it hosts a variety of events including national touring acts, local performance groups, private functions, and a film series. The theatre is a historic landmark in Glasgow.
The Plaza Theatre has been beautifully restored since its original opening in 1934. After a long history of movies as well as live stage performances, the family-owned and operated Plaza was sold in 1973. Unfortunately, soon after its purchase it closed. The City of Glasgow purchased the Plaza and its value to the community is priceless. Following an 18-month renovation, the theatre reopened on April 27, 2005.
Patrons at the Plaza find themselves sitting in a Mediterranean courtyard twinkling stars and moving clouds overhead. All architectural details, including the seats, are original to the 1934 opening. This gives the patron a true sense of what the theatre experience was like in the early 20th century.
Visit the Website to view the events calendar, seating chart and to purchase tickets. The phone number is 270-361-2101.
